Meet Someone New: Shop to Stop Human Trafficking with Rahab's Rope + a Giveaway

Did you know that January 11th was National Human Trafficking Awareness Day? A lot of times I look at the stats and am heart broken, but I'm paralyzed because I don't know how to help. Today, I want to introduce my friend Meredith (I actually know her in real life from college). She works with Rahab's Rope and I've asked her to share about their organization that encourages people to shop to stop human trafficking!

Did you know that 200 women and children are trafficked in India everyday? Out of the world’s 27 million modern day slaves, India is estimated to be home to 14.9 million slaves, the majority of whom are in forced prostitution.

Rahab’s Rope, a 501(c)(3), exists to bring hope to women and children throughout India who are forced or at-risk of being trafficked into the commercial sex trade industry. By creating a safe and loving environment, they enable the at-risk and victimized to develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Rahab’s Rope provides basic education and vocational training for each girl and woman who comes through their centers; ultimately, allowing them to integrate into their communities in a positive and constructive manner.

Rahab’s Rope raises support through the selling of product to maintain their ministries and programs which cover prevention, direct intervention and aftercare in India. They are currently working in Goa, Mumbai and Bangalore, and have a full time missionary staff living in each of these locations.

There are several ways to get involved which include: having a host-a-party event, partnering to raise awareness, child sponsorships and short or long term mission opportunities.

Rahab’s Rope would love to give away one of their handcrafted rice bag products, which are made in their stitching center in Goa, to a lucky Revolutionaries follower!

To be eligible to win you must enter through the rafflecopter below.
We also would like to encourage you to share about Rahab's Rope on your social media channels so that others can shop to stop human trafficking!

They have sooo many amazing products in their online store-- scarves, jewelry, bags, accessories, home decor, and journals. My personal favorite? These owl wood coasters! If you live in Georgia, they also have a retail store in Gainesville (north Georgia area).

Even if you can't shop to help, you can share! Pin the image below or share this post on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc!

One of my goals for this year is to put my concerns into action. Let's keep each other accountable?

Meet Someone New: Becky from Glue and Glitter + A Giveaway for "40 Days of Green Smoothies"

Happy Tuesday, friends! Don't you just love, love, love meeting all of these new people on Meet Someone New?! (Please say yes)

The next person I'd like to introduce you guys to is Becky from Glue and Glitter. I work with her over at Crafting a Green World, which makes her even cooler! When she sent me an email saying she'd love to give away a copy of her ebook 40 Days of Green Smoothies, I was all over it. With all our of New Year resolutions to get fit (please tell me I'm not the only one?), her book is perfectionnnnn. So, enough from me-- on to Becky!

Hi there! I'm Becky Striepe from the blog Glue and Glitter, a site dedicated to making vegan food and crafts accessible and fun! I also work with Bonnie at Crafting a Green World, a site that I bet you guys are already familiar with, since you love Bonnie.

I'm thrilled that Bonnie has asked me to guest post today and give away a copy of my green smoothie book: 40 Days of Green Smoothies. The book actually started out as a personal challenge during Lent a few years ago. Instead of giving up something bad, I wanted to start a good habit and drink a smoothie every day for the full six weeks. I had so much fun coming up with recipes and sharing them on my site, and when it was all done I realized that I had more than just a stack of recipes.

With a little bit of tweaking and a lot of recipe-testing, my little Lent experiment became a plan for starting a healthy green smoothie habit! The book features a different smoothie recipe for each day along with weekly tips and shopping lists to help you drink healthy green smoothies without breaking your budget.

I hope that you'll join me and start a healthy smoothie habit for the new year!

< 3,
Becky

Meet Someone New: 4 Things To Do and Experience in Chicago

Can you believe it's 2014? What are your goals for this year? If one of your goals is to travel more, you're going to love today's post from Kendra Thornton! You might be thinking, "What does she know about traveling?" Well, she was the previous Orbitz Director of Communications before she was promoted to the full time position of mom... so, this girl knows her stuff! Today, she's sharing about her hometown, Chicago!

Well, I've been all around this great big world, and I've seen all kinds of places... but unlike the Beach Boys, it's not California that I find myself missing when I leave, it's Chicago! So I've put together a little guide for anyone out there wanting to visit my hometown, this fair and windy city. While these are a few of my favorite things, you should also remember that there's more to do here than you could do in a lifetime... so explore, have an adventure! And if you're looking for something to do...

1. Check Out the Field Museum

If you're bringing kids to Chicago, you should definitely bring them here! And honestly, even if you're not, I've always found the exhibits here fascinating. There are some old classics - who can resist their displays of dinosaur bones? You'll even get to meet Sue, that famous T-rex skeleton who's on permanent display! But you also never know what traveling exhibits they'll have, making it a great place to revisit each trip! They even have free entry days that you can find here.

2. Visit the Navy Pier

So it's got a reputation for being a little touristy - this local doesn't care! There's a reason people like to come here. Personally, I'll never get tired of that 150-foot-tall ferris wheel. You can get a breathtaking view of the city from up there, so be sure to bring your camera! But if you're afraid of heights, there are plenty of other attractions, like the beautiful hand-painted carousel or the wave swing. And simply walking along and enjoying the view of Lake Michigan is a pretty wonderful experience as well!

3. Find Your Home Away From Home

While you're enjoying that beautiful view of Chicago from the top of the Navy Pier ferris wheel, you'll get a good sense of just how big and varied the city is. That means that you'll have a lot of choices when it comes to where you want to stay. A hotel that may have housed Al Capone? A place downtown where you can get around easily? Somewhere with a nice inclusive spa? I've got my own home here, of course, but... sorry, you can't all come crash here! When I do have people coming to visit that can’t all fit in my house, I recommend they use a resource site like gogobot to find an amazing place to stay.

4. Grab Some Great Diner Grub

Sure, you want a Chicago hot dog, and sure, you want some Chicago deep-dish pizza. But I can never get enough diner food! Glenn’s Diner is truly the best. This place has all-day breakfast (my guilty pleasure) and great seafood. It's also well-known for its massive selection of cereals! I've never regretted a meal I've had here, so check it out!

Of course, in a town this big, there really is so much you can do! While I've given you some places that I enjoy, don't be afraid to trek off the beaten path - take a stroll and see what places YOU can discover! Wherever you end up, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Thank you for sharing, Kendra!

Where do you want to travel this year? Me? If I'm dreaming big, I'd love to go to California!
