Toilet Paper Roll Crafts: Christmas Lights

It's no secret that I love toilet paper roll crafts. In fact, most people who come to my blog visit because of my Toilet Paper Roll Project for Fall... which just cracks me up! Anyway, I wanted to share another TP project with guys that I originally posted on Crafting a Green World in 2011. My photography skills were kind of sad back then, but nevertheless, it's a super fun project that is so easy to make!

What You Will Need:

1. Toilet paper or paper towel rolls

2. Twine or ribbon

3. Scissors

4. Red, green and black paper

5. Hot glue/hot glue gun

How To Do It:

1. Cut the rolls into sections. I cut mine into 1/4 inch pieces.

2. Bend the rolls into a bulb-like shape and then hot glue them onto your red and green paper (like picture a above).

3. Once dry, cut off the excess paper around the sections. After you're finished, they should look like picture b.

4. Now we will make the tops of the "bulbs." I simply cut out a small square. You will eventually fold this square in half (picture c) so make sure that you make the square large enough. Unfortunately, I didn't have black paper, so I ended up coloring brown paper with a black permanent marker (genius or ghetto.. you choose haha!)

5. Hot glue your square to the top of your "bulb" (picture d).

6. Hot glue the twine in between the folded square (picture e). I put a line of glue at the top where it folds and pushed the twine into the glue. Then, I pushed the two sides of the square together.

7. Keep adding bulbs to your twine! Make sure that you place them on your twine evenly, though. I also varied the colors (red, green, red, green). Next time I might try to do multiple colored bulbs so they look like the big vintage bulbs!

8. Once I finished, I felt like it was missing something, so I decided to outline the edge of each bulb (toilet paper roll) with a black permanent marker. I felt like it tied the black top and the body of the bulb together.

You're done! Now you can hang these cuties on your mantle, on your tree, or place them on your table in a unique way to make a festive centerpiece!

What would you do with them?

Booth Lighting

Hey guys! A few days ago I shared my booth reveal -- if you missed it, be sure to go check it out! Once I had everything in place, I realized my booth was lacking some lighting, so I got to work! Here are a few pieces that I put in the booth:

1. Toilet Paper Roll Light

First up, my toilet paper roll light. Yup, you heard that right. I've had it finished for forever, but never had the confidence to share it. I thought it was lame, but others thought it was cool so I decided to use it in the booth. I started out with this old fabric chandelier from Goodwill:

I paid $6.00 for it and it included the light cord (not pictured). I removed all of the fabric, formed toilet paper roll sections into squares, and hot glued them to the metal base of the light like so:

Then, I spray painted it Satin Lagoon from Rust-Oleum (the same color as my Bedroom Lamp). Now, it looks like this in my booth. I'm not selling it, though.. it's just for looks!

2. Metal Desk Lamp

I found this cute little desk lamp at a garage sale for $3.

Then, I spray painted it with Satin Lagoon from Rust-Oleum (must be my favorite, huh?). This one is actually for sale in my booth!

3. Red Vintage Lamp

I found this vintage lamp for $5 at a garage sale and fell in love because it matched my bedroom lamp. Sadly, though, I didn't have time to give it a makeover so it looked like this in my room for a few months:

When I realized I didn't have any lighting for my booth, I decided I could part with it. I spray painted it with Rust-Oleum's Satin Colonial Red and stole the burlap lamp shade from my bedroom lamp.

I hope it sells soon so I'm not tempted to steal it back.

4. Last Minute Bronze Lamp

The day before my "grand opening" I decided to go to a few thrift stores in hopes of finding some lighting. I came across this gorgeous bronze base for $4 and paired it with a paisley lamp shade that I've had for a while (I'm such a hoarder).

What do you guys think? Do you have any other lighting ideas for me?

I would love to hear them -- leave me some links or just let me know your ideas in the comment section! Once these lamps sell I will need more options! :)
