Before and After: Basil Green Side Tables

As I mentioned in our last post, Before and After: Mid-Century Two Tone Dresser, we were chosen as General Finishes' 2016 May Blogger of the Month! We received some goodies from GF to try out, and I was SO excited to try some different color combinations. Unfortunately, because of my excitement, I forgot to take before pictures. Just close your eyes and imagine two dated side tables that had been painted a dark brown color. Ready!? Okay!

After sanding both side tables, I painted them with General Finishes Basil Green Milk Paint. To make the details pop, I distressed the edges and then glazed the pieces with General Finishes Winter White Glaze. This was the first time I've ever used a white glaze, and I really loved the way it turned out! For extra durability, I finished the pieces with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat.

The drawers had a combination of old paint and hand drawn pictures on the inside (delightful!), so I covered them with vintage sheet music that I found at a local thrift store. I simply taped off the area, sprayed the bottom of the drawer with spray adhesive, and put the sheet music down randomly. You'll have to add more adhesive in between the layers of sheet music. Make sure you tape off around the area because spray adhesive will go everywhere!

Before and After: Mid-Century Two Tone Dresser

This week I was honored to be featured as General Finishes' 2016 May Blogger of the Month! To celebrate, I'm revealing this fun before and after that I completed using General Finishes products! It's no secret around here that I LOVE General Finishes, so it should be no surprise that we'll be carrying their products in the shop! This is one of the first pieces of furniture that I completed for the shop, so it meant so much to me! Here's the beauty that I started with:

Before and After: Mid-Century Two Tone Dresser

I know, I'm the worst at taking before pictures. I get so excited that I jump into the project without taking a proper before pic!

I've loved the two tone look since I tried it on the Two Tone Antique Dresser. This style allows you to keep the warmth of the wood while adding some fun color, so it's a win-win! I used General Finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint on the base of the dresser. For the drawers, I painted the bottom piece Seagull Gray to match the base, and then used General Finishes Java Gel Stain to darken the wood.

The Java Gel Stain is so easy to use -- I simply sanded the drawers very lightly with a 220 grit sandpaper, applied the gel stain, and wiped it off. As you can see it just darkened the existing wood a little bit:

I did the stain first and allowed it to try for 24 hours. Then, I taped off the bottom portion with painter's tape and painted it the same color as the base (Seagull Gray). Lastly, I sealed the entire piece with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat.

Here it is completed and oh-so-cute:

DIY Coffee Table Makeover with General Finishes Chalk Style Paint!

Hey guys! Hope you're having a great week so far (after all, it's only Monday haha)! Due to the cold weather, I've been focusing on smaller furniture pieces -- like the TV Stand Makeover with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint -- that I can bring inside and paint. Next on my list was this adorable coffee table I found on Craigslist:

It was in great condition, but I wanted to paint it to bring out all of the beautiful details. I still had plenty of General Finishes chalk style paint in "Empire Gray" left from my vintage chair makeover, so I decided to use it again! I knew the light color paired with distressing and a glaze would make all of the details pop!

After two coats of Empire Gray, I distressed the piece with 150 grit sand paper. Then, I glazed the piece with Paint Couture's Light Brown Sugar Glaze. To finish and seal the piece, I used General Finishes Flat out Flat top coat -- this is such a great top coat because it has absolutely no shine!
