Create an Eco-Friendly Wreath for Fall!

I recently started writing for a website called Feel Good Style and my first post was this adorable eco-friendly wreath for fall! I wanted to share it with you guys as well. It's super simple to make and it only cost me $2 because most of the supplies I already had on hand-- my kind of project!

What You Will Need:

1. An old wreath. Here are the hideous wreaths I started out with:

I got them at Goodwill-- one for 99 cents and one for $1.91

2. Sheet music or other recycled paper

3. Tape

4. Scissors

5. Two buttons

6. Hot glue/hot glue gun

7. A ruler

8. A permanent marker

9. Twine

How To Do It:

1. Remove all of the gorgeous items from the old wreath. I decided to redo the pink one, so I removed the pink part. There was still a ton of glue on the front, so I simply turned it over to the back.

2. Make the paper flowers by following the directions on my Recycled Paper Mother's Day Brooch tutorial (except you won't add the brooch pin).

3. Hot glue the flowers to your wreath.

4. For the mini banner, cut a piece of twine the length of your wreath.

5. Use a ruler to draw 4 triangles that will fit across the twine. They should look something like this (make sure you leave a little flap at the top so you can attach it to the twine):

6. With a permanent marker, write each letter of "fall" on the triangles.

7. Attach the triangles to the twine by hot gluing them like so:

8. Tie and/or hot glue the banner to your wreath.

Pretty easy, right? I love it!

Have you ever made your own wreaths? If so, share them in the comment section below or on my Facebook page-- I'd love to see them and share them on Pinterest!

Craft Booth Ideas: Lantern Jewelry Display

For those of you who are new around here, I have a craft booth in a local antique store. I'm always looking for items to redo and sell, or use as a display. I especially like to upcycle items that I can feature over at Crafting a Green World. I found this old lantern at a thrift store-- the glass sides were obviously broken out and it was just the metal shell. Even so, I knew I could make it into something awesome.

Enter, chicken wire. Really quick, though, I want to say that all the bloggers that ever wrote about chicken wire didn't tell me what a pain in the booty it is! It's hard to work with and it hurts! Once you're done hurting yourself with chicken wire you will also need wire cutters and other little accessories to decorate the lantern. You might also want use gloves when working with the chicken wire.

How To Do It:

1. Clean it up. Thrift store gunk is yuck.

2. Roll out your chicken wire. Again, this is difficult, so ask for assistance!

3. Measure the inside of your lantern to see how long the chicken wire needs to be. Or, you can be lazy like me, and wrap the chicken wire around the outside of your lantern and guestimate the length. Then, use your wire cutters to cut it.

4. Put the chicken wire inside of the lantern and form it around the edges. Cut off any excess wire.

5. Wrap the ends of the chicken wire together. You should be able to unite them pretty well, so you won't notice the seam.

6. Cut off any excess wire from the top. I would recommend leaving a little bit extra, though, so you can wrap it around the edges. This will help keep the chicken wire in place and give it a little more stability.

7. Put the lid back on top, and you're ready to accessorize! You could use it to display your jewelry:

or use it as a welcome sign/memo board

You could also put a large candle or seasonal decorations inside, too!

What would you put in it or on it? Leave a comment with your ideas below.

Before & After: The "Delicate Lace" Antique Coffee Table

About a month ago, a lady who had visited my craft booth contacted me about doing a custom piece for her. It was my first custom piece for someone I didn't know, so I kind of had a panic attack (you know, a healthy, happy panic attack). She wanted something with character and a cream/white color.

I started with this $40 table from a thrift store:

Normally I don't pay that much for a coffee table at a thrift store, but I couldn't resist all of it's details.

I found the most amazing cream color from Behr called "Delicate Lace." It's so gorgeous and has that vintage feel to it... plus, the name just sounds awesome. Then, I distressed it to bring out all of those details. I also added a thin piece of glass to the top (inside of the raised border) because the client wanted to display old family papers underneath. Here it is all finished:

Ohhhhhh those little feet!!

Most importantly, the client loved it! For me, this piece was a confirmation of sorts. It wasn't for a friend or family member that are obligated to say it looks great, if you know what I mean. I am so blessed and thankful to do what I do :)

Oh, and I also staged it as scrapbook coffee table for Crafting a Green World. I love the idea of showcasing memories on a coffee table-- that way they're viewed every day rather than having to pull out that old photo album. You can check out the post here or by clicking the picture below.
